It is sad whenever I read a chapter in the bible (especially in the Old Testament) that started humble and supernatural, but ends up too confident and disastrous.
But everytime there is an account for a biblical character/leader who started with flying colours and mellows down with complacency and disobedience, God's sovereignty and grace is there. That although some leaders did not end up well (Gideon), or did not do right (Samson), God will accomplish His purpose and He is willing to use imperfect people to lead His people.
It was a reminder to me that we have to continually pursue God. One great mighty deliverance does not guarantee us that the work is done. It does not imply either that we are immune to sin after being so mightily used by God, just like Gideon. It should not make us less eager to heed His calling in our daily lives.
Therefore, we are to a have posture of being "poor in the spirit". Without God we can do nothing, we are nothing.
We are to abide in the Vine.
Daily.
