Sometimes I wonder when I see in the bible that God has sent an evil spirit to torment people (mostly leaders). God has sent one to Saul. God has sent one to Abimelech too.
Most people think or believe that GOD is a good God in a sense that He does not have the capacity to have anything to do with evil spirits, that He has nothing to do with evil spirits. We sometimes forget that GOD IS ABOVE ALL BEINGS. Even the evil spirits are under His command.
HE IS ABOVE ALL THINGS. God can do what He desires to do and nobody can thwart His plans.
In Judges 9, God used Abimelech to punish the people of Shechem, who had helped him or supported him in killing 69 of his 70 brothers. At the same time, God also used the people of Shechem to punish Abimelech for the blood in his hands.
Abimelech died in a shameful way. A woman drop a millstone (about 28 inches in diameter) on his head and cracked his skull. Back then it was shameful to die in the hand of a woman or a child. It implies that you cannot defend yourself against them.
Surely, God's ways are not our ways. God's thoughts are not like our thoughts. All the more we are to come to Him in awe and reverence. For our God is a great God.
We are all under God.
