Rahab and the Spies

1. God ordered the Israelites not to spare anyone, but in this passage Rahab was saved by grace because of her faith in the power of the God of Israel. This story is a story of grace. The grace of God reaches out to anyone who believed. A grace that comes from the most unlikely situation. God's righteousness is available to anyone, through faith in God.

2. Rahab's faith saved her and her family. It does not mean though that she is a mature believer. Like us christians, when we came to believe in Christ, we were new in the faith and still has to go through the process of maturing in the faith. This might be the reason why Rahab told a lie.

3. The passage does not tell us that lying is approved in certain situations. Lying is sin, and God does not approve of any sin at any given time. God cannot tolerate sin. It is only by His grace we could have communion with Him.
