"And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD : "If you give the Ammonites into my hands, whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites will be the LORD's, and I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering."
Judges 11:30-31
The story of Jephthah started with his success in defeating the Ammonites but then it ends in the tragic story of his daughter being sacrificed because of his lack of knowledge of the God of Israel.
I have learned in this story how "dangerous" it can be for us to continue our christian life not having a deeper knowledge of God and His precepts. Indeed, Jephthah was granted success because of his trust and obedience to God but on the otherhand, Jephthah's knowledge of God is not the right concept of who God is.
This is another reminder for us to not just follow God based on our own knowledge of Him. BUT we are to know God based on how He has revealed Himself in the bible.
"Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few."
Ecclesiastes 5:2
REMINDER:
Ignorance of the written Word, can be tragic and dangerous.
